To Continue Homeschooling or Not to Continue Homeschooling? That is the Question...

We wanted to move to Germany was so that we could travel. With kids being in a school we would have be limited to only their holidays. That would mean we could not go with Jeremiah if he had a work trip. We try and go with him anywhere he goes, if it for a week or longer. This way we have been able to see so much (Washington DC, St. Louise, Colorado Springs, and Vicenza, Italy just to name a few). Homeschooling can be done anywhere, so now we are free to travel whenever we want. Being here in Europe we also try and go during the off seasons, so fall, winter and spring are our prime travel months.

2. The second reason we continued the homeschooling is because we like the idea of being to filter the information that the boys are given. There is so much out there that they are just not ready to handle. We can also pursue their interests and prepare them for a degree in that field. JD loves dinosaurs, so we are going to take some time and study dinosaurs. He wants to be a paleontologist, so I am going to provide him with information and studies that will help him prepare for this field. We cover all the subjects, but I will take the time to feed his desire to learn about this one passion. His dreams may change as he gets older, and we will have the flexibility to change with him.

The third reason we decided to continue homeschooling is because it just felt like the right decision for us. We see the benefits for us, it fits our lifestyle so much better. We need the flexibility that we can't get if they are in a school. I like that I can take a day off just because I want too. In December when most kids are stressing about exams, we are enjoying the snow, and reading fun books. We don't do school on birthdays, or days that dad has off. We do school all year round, just taking breaks when we want or need too. Speeding up in subjects that they master, or slowing down if they need more time with it. Diving deeper if we find it interesting, or making the boring more interesting.
JJ bowling, we just took a day off and had some fun. It was a regular school day for the local schools, their was hardly anyone else there. |
There are so many more little reasons we love to homeschool. But when I thought about it these are the main reasons we choose to continue.
So no we have been homeschooling for over three years, and everyday is an adventure.
